Feast of Guardian Angels

It is truly consoling to know that each one of us has a guardian angel who often sees the face of God who is in heaven (Matthew 18:10). On October 2, the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of Guardian Angels, affirming once more the love of God.
To human beings, angels are representatives of God. Traditionally, the Church attributes a three-fold mission to angels: to praise God, to act as His messengers and to watch over human beings. In the readings today, we see clearly the third mission of angels.
Behold, I send an angel before you, to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place which I have prepared.
Give heed to him and hearken to his voice, do not rebel against him, for he will not pardon your transgression; for my name is in him
(Exodus 23:20-21).
In this text, this angel was a protector of all the Israelites as a whole. His (Pardon me for the use of masculine gender. I am just following the Biblical convention.) mission was to guard and to guide. Each one of us has a certain destiny, the place which God has prepared for us (Exodus 23:20). The mission of the guardian angel is to help us fulfill our destiny. He represents God because God's name is in him. Yet, the angel in Exodus was not yet personal. He was rather tribal or national. So, let's turn to the Psalms.
Because you have made the LORD your refuge, the Most High your habitation,
no evil shall befall you, no scourge come near your tent.
For he will give his angels charge of you to guard you in all your ways.
On their hands they will bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone
(Psalm 91:9-12).
This text was made famous by Satan in the Temptation story recorded in Matthew and Luke. Satan quoted this text to challenge Jesus to jump down from the top of the Temple. Of course, this text does not apply to Jesus alone. It applies to whoever makes God his refuge, whoever trusts in Yahweh. Notice that not only are the angels personal, but they are also plural! God is sending not just one guardian angel but guardian angels to protect each one of us!
Matthew was not specific in this regard. He used plurals all along.
See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven (Matthew 18:10).
Matthew uses "their angels" οἱ ἄγγελοι αὐτῶν. Does he mean one angel for each or several angels for each or several angels for a group? We cannot decide purely from the text. For us of course, the more angels the better, right?
When the end comes, the trumpet shall sound. Then, God will send the angels to gather those who have attained salvation and to bring them in front of Him to receive judgment. Therefore, it is imperative that we should befriend our guardian angel(s).
But do you recognize the voice of your guardian angels? For many times, I have the following experience. Casually, a thought, a suggestion pops up imperceptibly. But I dismiss it, only to regret later. I should have followed this advice. Often, I just brush it aside and make a not so good decision, only to regret later. Yes, I need to learn to recognize this voice of my guardian angel.

Prayer to the Guardian Angel:
Angel of God, my Guardian dear, to whom His love commits me here, ever this day (or night) be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.
